Five recommended things to do
Walk the Dartmoor Way north and then north west of Moreton to the Teign Gorge and Castle Drogo, National Trust. This section of the Way is particularly beautiful in Spring (say, early May) when the wild flowers are out.

If you have young kids, head for the The Miniature Pony Centre.

Take in some of the best views in Dartmoor National Park from Blackingstone Rock. Morning and the sun's behind you lighting up the moors from Haytor Rocks to Cosdon Hill.

Drive the moors. Moretonhampstead's on the main road that cuts across the Park to Princetown and Tavistock.

Explore Moretonhampstead, look out for its public art and eat in one its pubs and restaurants.

Local towns and villages
For other 'gateway towns', try Chagford and Bovey Tracey. For moorland villages, we'd recommend Lustleigh, Manaton and Widecombe in the Moor. To the north, try Drewsteignton and Dunsford.
