We've covered weekend break suggestions for Chagford but here's a longer list of suggested things to do if you're planning a week's holiday in the north of Dartmoor. We're packing the suggestions in but, clearly, you can pick and choose.
Find a place to stay. As we mentioned in the weekend break entry, the Chagford area has plenty of hotels, B&Bs, pubs and cottages for hire. Choose from luxury to budget.
Day 1: Have a look around Chagford before climbing Meldon Hill. It's a great way to see the town and the surrounding area. We think the view from Meldon is up there with the best in the Park.
Day 2: Walk the Teign Gorge.
Day 3: Visit Fernworthy Reservoir.
Day 4: Explore the moors. If you have a car, we'd recommend the drive from Chagford down to Moretonhampstead and then across to Postbridge and Princetown. Visit the High Moorland Visitor Centre. On your way back try the walk to Bellever and then stand on the Postbridge Clapper Bridge.
Day 5: Spend the day visiting some of Dartmoor's National Trust and English Heritage properties. Castle Drogo is just up the road, Okehampton Castle to the west. If you're in the Okehampton area, experience Lydford Gorge.
Day 6: Big walk. If you want to remain local, try Kestor Rock and then beyond to the high moors. If you're willing to travel, try the Belstone to Rowtor Walk (Medium) or even the Highest Summits of Dartmoor Circular Walk (Medium).
Day 7:
If heading to the M5, Exeter train station of Exeter airport, we'd suggest you take a trip to Exeter as you leave the moors.
Rest.
