If you're heading for Dartmoor National Park for a long weekend, here are some ideas for things to do that weekend based around Chagford.
First up, find a place to stay. The Chagford area has plenty of hotels, B&Bs, pubs and cottages for hire. Choose from luxury to budget.
Day 1: Walk the Teign Gorge. If you've been told Dartmoor's bleak then this walk will surprise, especially in Spring or Autumn. The scenery is extraordinary, the walking fine. Whilst you're there, visit the National Trust's Castle Drogo.
Lunch at the pub by Fingle Bridge in the Teign Gorge or enjoy a cream tea at Castle Drogo.
Day 2: Visit Fernworthy Reservoir and Fernworthy Forest. There's a lovely circular walk or you can explore one of the area's many prehistoric sites.
We'd also recommend a good nose around Chagford's shops and a meal in one of its pubs and restaurants.
Day 3: Take a gentle stroll around the top of Meldon Hill. The views are wonderful and you should see Dartmoor Ponies.
